What happens when instant noodles are designed like a comic?

Afirm Global created Moum, a conceptual instant noodle brand built to test how a mass-market food category responds to structured brand architecture and cultural design thinking. The repositioning came first. Rather than marketing to “everyone” the default position of every major instant noodle brand Moum was built for aesthetic-driven, late-night urban creators who already treat food as part of a lifestyle and visual culture. The brand reframes instant noodles as a small, affordable luxury ritual inside a creative work cycle. That single strategic shift unlocked everything that followed: the naming system, the photography direction, the retail presence, and the cultural register the brand operates in.

The System

The flavour architecture replaces generic descriptors with atmospheric naming After Hour, Slow Flame, Low Light building cultural alignment into the product line itself. The visual identity balances bold typography, layered graphic composition, controlled colour systems, and structured hierarchy, drawing reference from poster culture, street graphics, and editorial layout systems. The logotype integrates abstract noodle forms while remaining scalable across packaging, retail, and digital applications. Every component was built to read as one coherent design language rather than a collection of pieces.

The Packaging Direction

Body: The packaging was designed for high shelf visibility, strong colour blocking, clear flavour differentiation, consistent brand hierarchy and tested in 3D mockups for real-world retail presence and material realism. Photography moved deliberately away from the steaming-bowl-on-wooden-table convention that defines the category. The art direction uses top-down compositions, bold brand-coloured backgrounds, hard directional light, and minimal curated ingredients.
